Going Gaga Over – Casa Cabana

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Every child wants to be boss of their own little space! This is the new recycled cardboard house from Kidsonroof! It is white, with windows, doors and a letter box. It is available in two colourways; nature print or white that you can decorate yourselves, let your children’s’ imagination run wild, as they create their very own space to be used as cubby, shop, hospital or wherever their imaginations can take them. The house is made from recycled paper – 100% bio degradable.

Kidsonroof is the result of teamwork between Romy Boesvelt and Ilya Yashin. Their principal source of inspiration comes from weekends spent in the natural environment around their mountain hut. And surrounded by their little blonde-haired children, the couple developed their collections. Ecology and protection of the environment are their main preoccupations, so all the products are produced in recycled cardboard. They also ensure that there’s plenty of opportunity for children’s own creativity: the building game in cardboard, a dragonfly to assemble, mushrooms pushing up from the foot of the tree, all the products in the Totem series can be mixed, matched and combined.

We Heart Books – Book Review

Forever Friends by Carin Berger….

We love a book that keeps little listeners entertained but which also bears repeat reading by mum and dad. This beautiful picture book is definitely one of these… Carin Berger’s stunning collage illustrations will be appreciated by discerning adults, while the brief text on each page contains perfectly chosen words for the most fidgety of toddlers.

This beautiful hardback picture book combines a story of friendship with a gentle description of the cycle of the seasons.  A small blue bird and a little brown bunny may not be the most likely of friends but after playing all spring, summer and autumn, they are sad to be parted when bird must fly south for winter. It’s a long wait for them both through winter, but eventually spring returns… The story beautifully conveys a sense of the change of seasons that is especially relevant I think now during autumn when the colour and texture of leaves on the ground are so tangible for littlies!

The text of Forever Friends has a lovely lilt and rhythm when read aloud. Carin Berger’s illustration style – seen previously in the equally gorgeous, The Little Yellow Leaf – contains crisp lines and collaged ephemera drawn from old books, catalogues and ticket stubs. The message that friendships can weather the changing seasons of life – literally and figuratively – is such a comforting one, for kids of any age.

Happy Mother’s Day

MDesty

Wishing every mother a very special Mother's Day, may you be spoilt, fussed over and treated like the queen of your universe and not allowed to clear a dish, empty the dishwasher or iron a single school uniform for the entire day. May you be snuggled and smooched and drowned in love because you deserve it.

Move over Nicola Finetti & Karen Walker! The mini-models have stolen the catwalk at LMFF, strutting their stuff in Moppit, Industrie Kids, Megan Park, Replica Revolution and Minihaha. The show was not without hiccups, but all is forgiven when your models are this cute.

CLS01

This week at Sydney's Kids In Style Lisa will be launching her 2010 winter collection of Cheeky Little Soles

Lisa's wanted to keep their new additions cute, fun and cheeky like their existing designs, but also stay in line with current trends and colours and to make them versatile with baby fashion so they match more outfits. I am loving the gold and silver polar boots for the girls and the globe trotter for the boys.
